Visual representations are central to developing children's mathematical reasoning. Children are challenged to find non-counting strategies, to estimate and to represent numbers in different ways. The questions will help children to be playful in mathematics and to build a strong, flexible understanding of number with an emphasis on deepening skills within a small number range.
Then, there are a range of prompts for openening up discussions and questions for extended challenge. Context prompts help children to see connections between maths concepts and the real world. Children see different perspectives and explain common errors. There are a range of more open-ended questions too, for example the 'Different Ways' and 'How Many Ways' questions.
The I See Reasoning eBook can be used to develop consistent 'reasoning routines' for a school. These routines help children to develop a strong conceptual understanding of mathematics. It also helps children to become creative, flexible thinkers.
It is possible that this resource will be modified after the curriculum review in England has taken place. If that does happen, all customers will receive a copy of the updated resource at no extra cost.
