The Vision for Primary Maths, 2026-2027

My desire is for all children to have intellectually and emotionally vibrant maths experiences. I want schools to have a compelling and practical vision for how children can learn mathematics and flourish as problem-solvers.

This image shows how my resources can be used to outwork this vision:

Resources Vision 1

The I See Reasoning eBooks (available in English and Welsh) provide a wide range of discussion prompts and reasoning questions to enrich daily maths lessons.

Deconstructing Word Questions (available for Y2-Y6) provides lessons that break down related word questions using slow reveals and visual representations.

I See Problem-Solving (available for Y2, LKS2 and UKS2) gives a range of extended problem-solving tasks along with support and challenge prompts.

New in 2026-2027: Problem-Solving Sequences

I am now writing and trialling my latest resource, Problem-Solving Sequences, for Y3-Y6. The resource will help teachers to build the knowledge and skills that children need to access the problem-solving tasks. Then, children will be launched into a range of extended challenges! This resource will replace I See Problem-Solving. It will provide more comprehensive pre-task build-ups and a wider variety of task options, enabling all children to become mathematical problem-solvers. To trial the tasks as they are being written, join the I See Maths Mailing List.

My podcast idea: Different Class

I am also exploring the possibility of setting up my own podcast in 2027 called Different Class. Since setting up I See Maths in 2016, I have I have met so many inspirational educators! The challenges that we face can be so diverse from setting to setting. I have seen people respond in such interesting and inspirational ways. I would love these people to tell their stories! They have so much to teach me.

I would also like to get to know people who work in diverse circumstances, both in the UK and overseas, to explore what we can learn from one another. I want to bring new ideas in education to light.

My long-term dream: to change the nature of maths education

Since founding I See Maths, I have taught lessons to hundreds of thousands of children; I've run CPD with teachers all across the globe; I have worked with amazing organisations like TTRS, Pixl, NCETM and Maths Horizons; my eBooks have become very widely used across the UK and beyond.

However, I feel very acutely that so much more still needs to be done! Mathematics can be such a powerful tool for creating connection and stimulating creativity. It is hugely relevant to the modern world. It can be so emotionally and intellectually rich.

My dream is to build a mathematics scheme that revolutionises Primary mathematics. Fluency will be built through conceptual understanding and reasoning. Teaching sequences will build all children's capacity to reason and problem-solve. Children will be taught to express themselves creatively, to take ownership. The Y1 content will provide a suitable progression from EYFS, meeting the physical and cognitive needs of each child.

Teachers must have great resources and tasks at their fingertips. However, teachers must also be empowered to make adaptions to meet the needs of their classes. Feedback mechanisms would be included so lessons can be constantly improved.

This is my distant dream. My big dream. Of course, it is far more than I can do by myself! I want to work with a team of people who can bring this vision to life and add new dimensions to it. If you have any feedback, email iseemaths@hotmail.com.
