Online INSET, 1st & 2nd September, Deconstructing Word Questions
On 1st and 2nd September 2025, I will be running an online training session Using Deconstructing Word Questions Y2-Y6 to Build All Children as Problem-Solvers. These sessions will show how the Deconstructing Word Questions eBooks can be used to teach all children to answer word questions. I will share the things that I have learned from teaching hundreds of lessons on breaking down word questions in the last three years!
The sessions will be held between 9:15am-10:45am on Zoom (the sessions are identical). The sessions will be 75 minutes long, with a 15-minute Q&A session at the end. If you are not able to attend the sessions live, you are able to request a recording of the session, which can be watched at any time after the event. The cost per school is £120+VAT. There is a 25% discount for schools of fewer than 120 pupils and discounts can apply for groups of schools who all wish to attend (e.g. academy trusts).

Within 2 working days, you will receive the Zoom link for the session. If you have any questions about the sessions, please include them in the email.
The Vision: Deconstructing Word Questions
Without explicit guidance, children may struggle to apply their knowledge of mathematics to answer word questions. Often, the initial impulse to answer a question prevents children from fully processing the information given.
