I hope you enjoy the 2020 I See Maths Christmas Challenges. There are videos to introduce each of the four tasks. Then the children can be let loose on the different puzzles and tasks. The children may even design some Christmas puzzles of their own... Enjoy!
In the video we explore a system for finding all the orders in which we can get ready in the morning (use the task resources with the video). Then the children have to find all the different combinations of outfits that the Elves can wear. A great challenge for children in KS1!
The video introduces a survey about our favourite Christmas activities (use the task resources with the video). We think about ways to find different combinations of answers, then the children return to the survey to explore how many ways it can be answered! This task could be used (in different ways) in Y2-Y4.
In the video we break down a multi-step question to work out how many carrots each reindeer has eaten (use the task resources with the video). Then the children piece together clues to work out how many mince pies each Elf has eaten! A great challenge for children in Y4-Y6.
In the video we introduce a multi-step logic puzzle, uncovering Mrs Claus' favourite Christmas food! Use the first part of the task resources with the video. Then, the children have to work out which child gets which Christmas present, piecing together lots of clues. A challenge for Y5-Y6 children.
Thank you, teachers, for your wonderful commitment throughout 2020. We are part of an amazing profession! Have a fantastic Christmas - Gareth
